Optimal Microblogging

2026-06-21

You may have noticed a link in the navigation bar at the bottom of this website which says micro. I have at some point started a microblog.

This began due to a particular experience. There is a person named Patricia Taxxon, who I am interested in following online. However, perse uses "social" media sites only, and ones I do not use. First it was tumblr, then after being banned due to a directed harassment campaign, a move to bluesky took place. I did actually make an account on bluesky when it first popped up, but I think I used it for about 1 day before abandoning it. I am happy as things are. Well what I would do is specifically, whenever I remembered, perhaps once a month or so, I would go to this person's tumblr and later bluesky, and just scroll through the posts. I found this to be a pleasant experience, and so I thought, perhaps I could begin microblogging. At first I considered twtxt, but I figured 1: it seems to have had it's moment and died off, no one uses it any more. 2: do I really want or need to bother with all of that? I had then stumbled across textplain.blog, a blog entirely consisting of .txt documents. It's a bit unwieldy for that purpose, given that there are non-functional hyperlinks and multiple pages, it's a funny idea but not really fit for purpose. You know what pure txt would be fit for purpose for though. A single page microblog. And that was my idea. I do not date my posts because the date is not important. The page is a single .txt document which I update whenever I want to add something. New posts go at the top. That is all. I considered making it an rss feed, but I wanted you to have the same experience I have with Patricia Taxxon's "social" media pages, that is, to randomly remember "oh yeah, i should visit that website" and read through a bunch of posts, occasionally. Well it's nothing crazy, it's purely my random thoughts, I doubt anyone will find it very interesting, but nonetheless I think it's kind of funny to have this ultra-minimool microblog. I think it's scientifically impossible for it to be more minimal. So yeah, this is just a post to alert you that it exists.
